Somboon Seafood Restaurant Surawong Branch

From airport, we went directly to our hotel and after a short rest in our comfy room we were ready to patronize Somboon Seafood restaurant. But unfortunately, we got the wrong understanding from the map and we ended walked around Surawong area for 1 hour. Luckily we met a nice Thai lady that can speak very good English. She directed us the correct path to the restaurant. Finally we arrived in Somboon Seafood Restaurant around 7 pm and we must wait for around 10 minutes to get the table. This restaurant is famous around Japanese tourists; even they thought we were also Japanese.

Because of the long and difficult path to reach this place, we were starving and quickly placed orders from dried curry crab, fried morning glory, tom yam goong, and 2 young coconuts for drink. They worked very efficient and less than 10 minutes, all the foods already served on our table.

Tom yam goong tasted very good, sour and spicy. The soup contained shrimps, mushroom and crabs that already absorbed the soup. I enjoyed it very much, even I can say that the best tom yam goong I ever tasted.

Dried curry crab also tasted good, not that spicy and very good to eat it with hot rice. They mixed crab meat with eggs and cooked it with curry paste. While fried morning glory tasted a little bit salty, but it tasted crunchy and fresh, good to be paired with hot rice.

After finished all the foods, we still have space for dessert. With not so many options for desserts, we choose mango sticky rice. Mango sticky rice came with a nice sticky rice, it were tasted sweet and sour mango that paired perfectly.

And the best drink for all that good foods were coconut. The coconuts they served were not ‘young’ one, but it still tasted refreshing.

With that nice experience, we decided to visit another branch, Ratchada. This branch located near Huay Kwang MRT station. This restaurant was not full when we arrived so we can get the table directly at the third floor.

We ordered tom yam goong, fried yod mara (this is green vegetable), crab roll and fresh oyster. For oyster, we can choose want the fresh one or grilled one and they sell it per piece. We ordered 2 fresh oysters. Oysters came first, covered with ice and they also served chilly and soy sauce. It tasted fresh and sweet. While tom yam goong tasted spicier compared the one we have at Surawong branch. The vegetable we ordered also tasted salty but also tasted fresh and crunchy. The last one was crab roll, a little bit oily, peppery and salty, but after dipped it in the sweet sauce, it tasted very good.

Overall, we were very enjoyed all foods from Somboon Seafood Restaurant and definitely will come back again when we visit Bangkok.
