Google Launches Personalised Homepages

You can now use personal photos and images taken from your computer as the background of your Google homepage. By clicking ‘Change background picture’ in the bottom left-hand corner of the current
Google homepage you can choose an image either from your hard disk, a Picasa Web Album or a public gallery hosted by Google.

Some commentators said that the new feature makes the Google homepage look similar to Microsoft’s search engine Bing, which posts a new photograph as its background image every day. Margot Williams, writing on the Inside Google blog, refered to the feature as the “Bing look option”. Google’s vice-president of Search Products and User Experience Marissa Mayer pointed out, however, that you can change the image as regularly as you want and even switch back to the “clean, simple look of Google” at any time.

The feature is compatible with the Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari browsers, though Google recommends having the most up-to-date version and making sure JavaScript is enabled.
